From 9am - 1pm today everyone on campus at Jacob's Pillow put on their gloves and rain boots and got ready to set-up this years festival. My group was in charge of cleaning out the basement of Hunter House, which consisted of an inch and a half of water ruining many boxes and items down there. When that was finished we cleared out the benches, tables and items from inside the Ted Shawn Theatre Lobby and the Welcome Center. I was quite surprised at my ability to lift such heavy object, and I didn't complain once. (Cleaning and lifting is not my favorite thing in the world.) Once everything was removed, we cleaned the windows, swept, and vacuumed making sure everything was ready to go for the kick-off of the festival.
I spent the remainder of my day in the box office, and it was the first day I was able to answer phones and help patrons purchase tickets. I spent about 25 minutes communicating with one lady who was so unsure about what to see and had thought because she had not heard of a certain name that they might not be good dancers. Although she did not end up purchasing tickets at that time she thanked me multiple times for helping her understand the many different performances we have this summer at The Pillow.
When I wasn't selling tickets I organized lists in excel for the three teams who will be street teaming tomorrow, including myself. I am very excited to go into town tomorrow and get to know local shop owners and patrons who live so close! After the teams return I will be making phone calls to stores, restaurants, etc. that were closed during our visits. I also found out that I will be co-managing The School at Jacob's Pillow Facebook page!
I am so excited for the festival to begin, and I derfinitely made the right decision by coming here this summer
