Don't worry - I have not seen any lions or tigers - but bears, that's another story, keep reading and you'll find out!
I can't believe its already Thursday, the week has flown by and my brain is exploding with the amount of information I have been given. Tuesday and Wednesday I spent majority of my day in the box office. This is one of the busiest seasons Jacob's Pillow has had in the past few years and the phones have been ringing off the hook. As ticket services intern I am in the process of learning how to perform End of Day Sales. This process involves pulling all the transactions made in ticket sales, handling fees and development donations and exported into one document. Once this information is documented we check for any credits, (although we do not have refunds we do have credits occasionally) and subtract that from our net sales. The next step is to plug in today's information and compare it to where we were in the 2012 and 2011 seasons. Tickets are selling fast - so if you are interested make sure you book today!!!

Today was my first day in the Marketing office, and I got put to work. My day started off with scrolling through the The School at Jacob's Pillow Facebook Page and editing posts from 2012 to keep up with today's technology and lingo. I met with my marketing director supervisor Greg and went over the "Facebook Ad Campaign Posting Guidelines for Jacob's Pillow Dance." I am not going to go into detail about our guidelines, but I will say that I learned ways to better post on Facebook to appeal to the readers. My next assignment was to call all the visitors centers within approx. a 50 mile radius of The Pillow and make sure they had received our festival posters and brochures, if the centers had not I arranged a date and time to meet with an employee and deliver our marketing materials.
During my lunch break I met with Mariclare and Mark for "Lunchtime Learning." Today's session was based on Career Paths and the importance of networking and branding yourself, but in the right way. When meeting someone for the first time, you do not want to overwhelm them with information about yourself and immediately state, "Hi, I need a job." Mariclare and Mark both got to where they are today from making networks and not giving up on what they wanted. An inspirational lunch break!
After lunch, I created today's Facebook post for The School at Jacob's Pillow. Go view it --> http://tinyurl.com/mjqadrb
My last assignment of the day was to create this upcoming weeks "Today at Signs." These signs will be posted on our 13 boards around campus by Emily or myself every evening. The signs provide information for activities and events occurring today and those later in the week.
Now that I made you read my entire blog, Ill share my bear story.
I did not find dinner to be appetizing so I decided since I had the night off I would drive 20 miles into town to find an Applebees. On my walk to the car I fell into a pile of mud, and wondered if this day would get better? As I go to turn down George Carter Road - this lovely black bear cub comes galloping by car. I cried, to say the least, I was so startled. It was the second of three bear sitings that day so someone's hiding food that there smelling!! In case you were wondering... I still went to get my Applebees and when I went to leave I got stuck in the middle of a lightening storm, (If you don't know me, I am petrified of thunder and lightening.) It was a very interesting day to say the least, but I would not change these new adventures for anything.
Enjoy the beautiful weather :)
